Model Of The Frigate "l'hermione"
The frigate was built by Henri Chevillard, launched in 1779, and served in the French Navy under both the Monarchy and the Republic. It is most famous for having transported the Marquis de Lafayette to the United States in March 1780, a decisive turning point in the American Revolutionary War. It sank in 1793 off Le Croisic after striking a rock. A faithful replica of the frigate was built at the Rochefort arsenal in France, starting in 1997. Launched in 2014, it is the world's largest working replica of a wooden ship from that era. The model, mounted on a base with a cartouche bearing its name, is complete, in perfect condition, and an exact replica. It will be shipped in a wooden crate. Information and additional photos are available upon request.
