Large Alabaster Bust, Diana The Huntress After Houdon, Mythology, Young Woman 18th Century
An antique and elegant alabaster bust depicting Diana the Huntress. A decorative work in the Neoclassical style dating from the 19th century. The goddess of the hunt is shown with her head turned to the side, her hair in a chignon held by a headband, and draped in a light garment tied at the chest—iconography characteristic of representations of Diana inspired by Antiquity. The sculpture is distinguished by the fine modeling of the face, the delicate treatment of the hair, and the quality of the folds of the garment. A work after a model by Jean Antoine Houdon. Height: 63 cm. Good overall condition. Note an old chip on the back of the pedestal (visible in the detail photograph).
