Talavera Majolica Vase Spain, Ca.1900-1925

Talavera is a fine earthenware, glazed with tin and hand-painted. Originating in Spain, it developed from the 16th century onwards and later flourished in Mexico. Only natural clays are used, rather than chemically treated and dyed clays.  The handcrafting process takes three to four months.  The process is very risky.  That makes Talavera much more costly than other types of pottery.    This Talavera earthenware amphora depicts goats and a Spanish gentleman on horseback. The sides are decorated with trees, while the neck and base are adorned with flowers and leaves. The handles are shaped like two intertwined snakes. This vase is 62 cm tall and is signed on the base. Today, Talavera is a registered trademark. Only pieces from designated regions and certified workshops, using traditional methods, are authorized to bear the Talavera name.  Worldwide delivery.
