17th Century Fireplace Backplate
Monumental 17th-century fireplace plaque belonging to the Barons of Raville. The Raville family (von Rollingen in German) was an old Luxembourgish noble family who owned a castle in the village of Raville (Moselle). Formerly a Luxembourgish enclave, the village of Raville was ceded to France by the convention of May 16, 1769. [Wikipedia] The family died out at the beginning of the 18th century. Coat of arms: 1st and 4th, gules, three silver chevrons, representing Raville; 2nd and 3rd, gules, a silver cross anchored.
