Caucasian Dagger Known As Kindjal, Caucasian, Late 19th – Early 20th Century
A double-edged, straight-bladed steel dagger with a central fuller, flat cross-section, and tapered point. The hilt and scabbard are made of nielloed silver, richly decorated with floral motifs and stylized scrolls in the tradition of Caucasian metalwork. Some parts are highlighted with vermeil, forming an elegant contrast with the nielloed decoration. The metal-scaled handle terminates in a characteristic pommel, also adorned with engraved and nielloed motifs. The silver scabbard features the same ornamental decoration along its entire length, with a worked pommel and mouthpiece. This piece is representative of traditional Caucasian weaponry, the Kindjal being the emblematic dagger carried by the Caucasian peoples.
