Pair Of Empire Period Gilt Bronze Candlesticks Attributed To Claude Galle
A fine pair of gilt bronze baluster candlesticks decorated with palmettes and fleurons.
The ogival base, adorned with arcades and fleurons on a matte background, supports the stem, which is chased with a fluted and gadrooned ring and fine beadwork. It terminates in a flared cyma molding supporting a palmette base, a foot, a socket, and a finely chased drip tray. The round base is decorated with palmettes and fleurons.
The original mercury gilding is beautiful, with some minor wear consistent with age.
