Régis de Martrin-Donos (playwright, director, set designer, painter) was born in 1988 in Côtes d'Armor, France. He holds a degree in History from Paris Sorbonne IV University. He is the 2023 recipient of the Albert Maignan Painting Prize from the Taylor Foundation. A self-taught artist, he learned oil painting by painting outdoors in all conditions. In search of wild and authentic landscapes, he travels every year to paint en plein air (France, Spain, Portugal, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Italy, Morocco, etc.). He exhibited at the Jane Roberts Gallery in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Alongside his landscapes painted exclusively from life, he also paints portraits, nudes, and still lifes in his studio. In 2023, he traveled to paint along the coast between Brest and Rotterdam. His seascapes were exhibited at the end of that year at the Artborescence Gallery, 25 rue de Beaune. The following year, he embarked for Morocco to follow in the footsteps of Eugène Delacroix. He spent three months painting in challenging conditions of heat, wind, and sand. He presented this work at the Mercier Gallery in 2025.
A work created during a long trip to Italy in the spring of 2025 can be seen, along with all his other works, at the Artborescence-Barlier Gallery, 36 rue de Penthièvre in Paris, until April 4th.
