View of the Basin of San Marco with sailing boats in the foreground and, in the background, the Campanile, the Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Gino Scalatelli was a Venetian painter active between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, known for his lagoon views and urban scenes. The composition follows the Venetian vedutistic tradition, with a luminous rendering of water and sky in keeping with the watercolour painters of his time.
