Earthenware Plate From Marseille – Veuve Perrin Factory – 18th Century
Marseille Faience Plate – Veuve Perrin Factory – 18th Century. This charming Marseille faience plate comes from the renowned Veuve Perrin factory, active in the second half of the 18th century and celebrated for the delicacy and freshness of its polychrome decorations. The plate features an elegant floral design in the center, composed of a naturalistic bouquet blending blooming roses, wildflowers, and delicately shaded foliage, accompanied by butterflies and small flowers arranged on the rim. The decoration, executed freehand, testifies to the great freedom and pictorial vibrancy characteristic of Marseille productions of this period. The rim is highlighted by a contoured, raised border and edged with a purple line, typical of the factory's production. The reverse bears the mark “VP” painted in blue, a well-known signature of the Veuve Perrin factory, founded in Marseille around 1748, which enjoyed great success thanks to its designs inspired by nature and 18th-century floral painting. The earthenware from this factory is among the most highly regarded of Provençal production. A very beautiful decorative piece, ideal for a collection of 18th-century French earthenware. Period: 18th century. Manufacturer: Veuve Perrin, Marseille. Mark: VP on the reverse.
