Antique Solid Silver Cutlery Set - Marseille - Consulate/empire Period
Antique silver cutlery set comprising a spoon and fork, violin pattern, typical of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The pieces bear several hallmarks:
• Rooster hallmark (1798-1809) guaranteeing solid silver,
• Number 61 corresponding to the Marseille assay office,
• Goldsmith's lozenge-shaped hallmark,
• Laureate head hallmark (1819-1838) attesting to a subsequent re-inspection of the silverware.
An old engraving on the back:
P ✚ R / D • A • P, probably a family or marriage monogram.
Beautiful typology from the Directoire/Consulate – early Empire period, with an elongated spoon and a fork with fine tines
A fine example of antique French silverware, probably from Provence (Marseille).
