Volunteer officer's saber.
Leather grip with silvered copper filigree, chiseled and gilded brass guard. Pommel with plumed helmet, wraparound guard with one main branch and two secondary branches; Between these branches, a climbing lion and a rooster. Openwork guard.
Slightly curved 72.5 cm blade with a flat back, engraved "KLINGENTAL," false edge, and fullers.
This blade is engraved and gilded for one-third of its length, but the engraving "Vive le roy et la patrie" (in French and Latin) is crossed out, a testament to the evolution of the regime.
The unique feature of this sword is the presence of a brass scabbard engraved with republican and warlike allegories, as well as flowers. This scabbard may be later or have been replaced, as leather scabbards are particularly fragile when mounted.
It could also be a re-use of this sword in 1830 by an officer of the National Guard, hence the rooster on the hilt, which may have been added at the same time.
What is certain is that this scabbard was worn for a long time, and this sword appears to have had a long service life.
