Artist: Wilborts
"Paimpol" Gouache and pastel on cardboard, signed Adrien Wilborts and dated 1934. Adrien Wilborts (1885-1944) was a doctor who served in the First World War in the Medical Corps, where he courageously treated the wounded. He retired to his home on the Île de Bréhat and painted the landscapes of Brittany. When the Second World War broke out, he quickly joined the Resistance, specifically the "Sidonie's Gang" network. Betrayed, he was deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he died on February 24, 1944. His works on paper are rare, and his Japonisme style brings a modern touch to the Breton landscapes. Modern oak frame. Dimensions without frame: 63.7 x 50 cm
