Antique Bronze Signed , Young Lady , Marie Antoinette , Van Der Straeten

Artist: George Van Der Straeten
Large antique bronze sculpture dating from the second half of the 19th century. A very beautiful female figure depicting a young actress dressed as a shepherdess. The young woman is dressed in the style of Marie Antoinette at the Petit Trianon. The sculpture is signed by the artist George Van Der Straeten. It bears the Blot foundry mark and measures 58 cm in height. A very fine casting.

Georges Van der Straeten (born December 24, 1856, in Ghent and died November 14, 1928, in Paris) was a Belgian sculptor associated with the Art Nouveau movement. Settling in Paris at the end of the 19th century, he specialized in creating decorative bronzes, primarily busts and elegant female figures, characterized by great refinement in detail and a delicate expression. His works, often produced by the Société des Bronzes de Paris, were very popular with the bourgeoisie of the Belle Époque. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and notably won a medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.
