Baluster Vase. Montigny-sur-loing, 19th Century
Artist: Montigny Sur Loing
Baluster vase from Montigny-sur-Loing, a piece of French artistic ceramics from the 19th century (circa 1870–1900). Hand-painted naturalistic decoration: flowers, leaves, and small plants depicted as in a garden. The painting is highly pictorial (almost like a painting on canvas), with a deep green background and glossy glaze effects. It has a tall form with a flared neck and a varied color palette: greens, yellows, pinks, and whites. The rounded base is quite wide, the body is convex in the middle, with a pronounced shoulder (the narrowing point) and a cylindrical neck that narrows and then flares slightly at the top, characteristic of the Art Nouveau period.
