Ebonite Music Box Of Emperor Napoleon I, Battle Of Austerlitz, 19th Century
Small ebonite music box* decorated with a scene from the Battle of Austerlitz, featuring Emperor Napoleon I on horseback surrounded by his troops. It includes two tunes (needing restoration): "March to Nabucco" and "Il Bacio Valse." Small mother-of-pearl buttons. Dating from the Napoleon III period, 19th century. This box is in good overall condition. The music mechanism is not working and will need to be restored (we have the key). Please note: there are some minor imperfections, small cracks and micro-chips, and minor repairs to the ebonite. Please examine the photos carefully (see red arrows). *Ebonite: Charles Goodyear obtained ebonite in 1839 by subjecting natural rubber to a prolonged (and extreme) vulcanization process. Its color, similar to that of ebony, is the origin of its name. His brother, Nelson Goodyear, patented and marketed it in 1851. Dimensions: 9.5 cm x 6 cm / 3 cm. Reference: E10 394.
