JEAN BRANCHET'S BIOGRAPHY Born November 14, 1934 in Lons-le-Saunier (France). Lives and works in Nantes (France). His family moved to Toulouse in 1939, the city where he spent his childhood and adolescence. Secondary education in science and technology. First attempts at painting, notably thanks to the advice of a Spanish artist who had taken refuge in France. Arriving in Paris in 1953, he undertook technical studies at the School of Telecommunications, then studies in law and economics at the Sorbonne. Discovery of contemporary art in Parisian salons, in particular that of the Réalités Nouvelles. He regularly visited the Louvre Museum, the National Museum of Modern Art, and the galleries of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district. He played jazz and classical guitar for several years. He occasionally took life drawing classes at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. An economist, organizer, and financial director for multinational corporations, he simultaneously pursued a personal artistic practice which, since the early 1970s, has been firmly rooted in the Constructivist movement. His personal and professional travels took him abroad, giving him the opportunity to visit numerous museums. From 1975 to 2000, he and his wife ran the Galerie Convergence in Nantes, a gallery that presented a wide range of major artists from most of the artistic movements that emerged after the Second World War.
