Pair Of Copper And Domed Glass Lanterns – 19th Century Work
A pair of copper lanterns with a faceted frame fitted with gently domed and bubbled glass. Their elegant silhouette, with a swollen body and tapered shoulder, recalls the outdoor lanterns used in the 18th and 19th centuries to protect the flame from the wind while diffusing light through the glass. Each lantern consists of glass panels held in a copper frame with cut and twisted edges, offering a discreet yet refined decoration. The upper section is openwork to allow ventilation, while the base terminates in an elegant ornamental finial in the shape of a stylized pine cone. The set has been electrified at a later date, with sockets mimicking candles, in keeping with the original lighting style.
