Olivier Pettit Glazed Ceramic Bowl With A Bull And Rooster Decoration In A Naive Style
Artist: Olivier Pettit
Olivier Pettit ceramic enameled cup with bull & rooster naive style
Olivier Pettit (1918-1979) was a French ceramist, contemporary of Blin, Capron and Chiazzo.
Renowned ceramist, after his studies at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he won the first prize for sculpture in Rome in 1952. After having met friends artists & innovative ceramists like Blin, Capron & Chiazzo.
He settled in the Var, where he continued ceramics as an autodidact in his workshop. We know of two lines of ceramic work by Olivier Pettit’s hand: one in enamelled clay decorated freehand with animal motifs (like this cup), flowers and tauromachy, the other in stoneware, with or without a motif.
This dish has a style close to art deco, with a surreal drawing in its center, close to the naive style of a rooster on a bull (or a cow). Signed under the base, it bears the initials O and P. The P crossing the O vertically.
