French Mirror In Carved And Gilded Wood, Louis XV Style, Napoleon III Period
An elegant French mirror in richly carved and gilded wood, made during the Napoleon III period in the Louis XV style, highly prized in the mid-19th century. The rectangular, horizontally oriented frame is lavishly decorated with rocaille motifs, acanthus leaves, and finely carved scrolls. The particularly elaborate pediment is centered by a classical vase overflowing with fruit and foliage, surrounded by dynamic tendrils and stylized birds, creating a balanced and expressive decorative composition. The lower section also features a richly worked decoration with a central cartouche surrounded by scrolls and acanthus leaves, harmoniously echoing the ornamentation of the pediment. The depth of the carving and the warm gilding enhance the decorative quality and sculptural presence of the piece. This generously proportioned mirror is a remarkable decorative piece, perfectly suited to both classic and eclectic interiors. France, circa 1860–1880.
