Engraved Glass Ewer - Early 19th Century

An elegant, finely engraved, blown glass ewer dating from the early 19th century.

The piece features a beautiful globular body resting on a circular foot, surmounted by a slender neck with a flared lip. The gracefully curved handle, ending in a delicate scroll, was applied while hot.

The rich and refined decoration is entirely wheel-cut. It comprises foliate scrolls, crosshatching, geometric friezes, and an ornamental central cartouche.

The exquisitely executed engraving subtly plays with the transparency of the glass and captures the light with elegance. The piece perfectly illustrates the decorative taste of the early 19th century, still imbued with classical tradition while foreshadowing the ornamental virtuosity of the Romantic period.

The clear glass is of good quality and shows a light patina from use.
It is in good overall condition, with no apparent cracks or chips.
