A French Napoleon III Ormolu-mounted Oxblood Glass Vase
Height: 50 cm
Width: 28 cm
A fine late 19th century French oxblood glass vase richly mounted with gilt bronze (ormolu), executed in the Napoleon III taste. The deep, lustrous red body of baluster form is mounted with finely chased ormolu mounts, featuring classical female mask handles surmounted by scrolling supports, floral swags suspended from ribbon-tied rosettes, and a gadrooned collar to the rim.
The lower section is encircled by stylised leaf ornament above a circular base with beaded decoration and square appliques, raised on four bracket feet.
The strong contrast between the vibrant oxblood glass and the warm gilded bronze reflects the opulent decorative aesthetic characteristic of the Napoleon III period, circa 1850–1870.
A striking decorative statement piece of refined execution.
