European School (c. 1900) - Tragedy Facing The Coasts
Oil on panel. It is a terrifying duel between two primal elements: as icy water invades the bulkheads with a triumphant roar, tongues of fire lick the masts, transforming the wreck into a floating pyre that illuminates the distraught faces of the crew. The crunch of steel tears through the air, and acrid smoke mingles with the salty breath, until the giant, crushed by the weight of its own agony, plunges into the jaws of the ocean, leaving behind only a trail of extinguished embers and the muffled echo of a final siren that the wind scatters forever.
