Empire Period Chased And Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock – Signed J.b. Roemat, Ghent – Strikes The Hou

A finely chased and gilded bronze Empire period clock with a double patina, dating from the early 19th century. Its design, reminiscent of an antique vase on a pedestal, is characteristic of the Neoclassical style. The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed "JB Roemaet à Gand" and is framed by a gilt bronze bezel decorated with a frieze. The movement, in excellent working order, strikes the hours and half-hours. The decoration is particularly rich and symbolic: handles in the form of stylized dolphins ending in croziers, applied bronze female heads on the sides, and a base adorned with facing swans and floral motifs, typical of the Empire style inspired by Antiquity. The original gilding is well preserved, the chasing is of high quality, and the clock has a striking decorative presence. Note: a slight micro-crack on the dial (visible in the photo), which does not affect the clock's operation or legibility. Overall, it is in very good condition.
