From the late 19th/early 20th century, an oil on canvas framed in a medallion on a keyed stretcher, depicting a very beautiful portrait of a young girl, signed lower right William Ablett, with an inscription. A very beautiful subject with an expressive gaze, finely painted. Giltwood frame. Visible canvas dimensions: 55 x 46 cm. Frame dimensions: 61.5 x 52.5 cm. The tiny white dots appearing in the photos are merely reflections of the canvas varnish. This painting is in very good condition. ABLETT, William-Albert (1877-1937) - A painter born in Paris to British parents, he was a student of A. Aublet and Gérôme and pursued a respectable Parisian career while maintaining his ties with his native country. Graduating first in his class from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1900 and in London in 1902 and 1904. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London while remaining an associate of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, to which he sent works until 1936. He participated in the Liège exhibition in 1909, where he received an award, and also exhibited at the "Épatant" circle in Monte Carlo, Toulouse, Rouen, Douai, and Pau. A genre and portrait painter, he illustrated Laclos's *Les Liaisons Dangereuses*. William Ablett distinguished himself as a portraitist by creating likenesses of several French and British personalities. He also devoted himself to genre scenes. Women occupy a central place in his work. He depicts them in everyday poses, reclining on a sofa, attending to their toilette, or reading a book.
