With 150 finely hand-coloured plates outside the text, including a portrait of Buffon as the frontispiece to the first volume and an allegorical frontispiece to the second. Solid and elegant contemporary uniform binding in half leather and red percaline, spines with raised bands, gilt titles and gilt rules. Only slight and insignificant fading to the boards; otherwise a firmly bound, fresh copy, virtually free of foxing and in excellent state of preservation. All plates are protected by the original tissue guards. The work is arranged as follows: Vol. 1: Théorie de la Terre, Histoire des Animaux; Vol. 2: L’Homme, Domestic Animals; Vol. 3: Les Quadrupèdes; Vol. 4: Monkeys, Additions to the Quadrupeds; Vols. 5–8: Les Oiseaux; Vol. 9: Introduction to Minerals, Époques de la Nature; Vols. 10–11: Minerals; Vol. 12: Experiments on Plants, Moral Arithmetic, General Tables of Contents.
