Title :
Laguiole Calmels Hors Concours — Shepherd's Knife — Early 20th Century — Authentic Witness of the Aubrac Region
Description :
Authentic Laguiole Calmels Hors Concours, a small shepherd's knife representative of the great cutlery tradition of the Aubrac and the Auvergne region. The Calmels mark, bearing the mention "Hors Concours" on the blade, bears witness to a house that so thoroughly dominated the cutlery competitions from 1900 onwards that it was withdrawn from them, for lack of finding better. A distinction that remains to this day a hallmark of quality and authenticity highly sought after by collectors.
A piece of character
Compact and easily portable — 10 cm closed and 18.2 cm open — this knife is the perfect representative of the Laguiole shepherd's knife as it was carried daily by the men of the Aubrac in the early 20th century. The spring works very well, bearing witness to careful craftsmanship and fine preservation. A slight lateral play at the last rivet is to be noted, of no consequence and easily remedied by a simple tightening, perfectly consistent with the age of the piece.
