Large Dagger In The Style Of d'Estaing, With A Stag Antler Handle. Hunting Dagger, Used For Venery.
Antique hunting dagger in the style of d'Estaing — Stag horn handle & silver inlay — German made — Late 19th / Early 20th century
Description: Beautiful and large antique hunting dagger in the "d'Estaing" style, a characteristic piece of European hunting cutlery from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The craftsmanship, style, and quality of workmanship point to a German origin, probably from the workshops of Solingen, then at the height of their production.
The handle is made of natural stag horn, a noble and traditional material par excellence for hunting knives and daggers of this period. It is adorned with a small, finely integrated decorative silver inlay, which adds a touch of elegance and distinction to the whole.
The blade, of good size, shows signs of use consistent with its age, attesting to a piece that was genuinely used and not a display piece. It remains very sharp and the mechanism is in excellent condition, without any play, which is remarkable for a piece of this age. The antique leather sheath accompanies the piece and harmoniously completes the set.
Dimensions: Closed: 27.7 cm
Open: 37 cm
In summary: A beautiful antique hunting dagger, large and elegant, combining fine materials and robustness, in very good condition. An ideal piece for a collector of antique edged weapons, a hunting enthusiast, or a lover of 19th-century objects. Period: Late 19th – Early 20th century Origin: Probably Germany (Solingen) Materials: Stag antler, silver, steel, leather Condition: Very good overall condition — no play in the mechanism — sharp blade with a patina of use — original leather sheath
