Large Curved Balcony Or Terrace With Cast Iron Railings In The Napoleon III Style

A rare and large curved cast iron balcony or railing in the Napoleon III style, in very good condition, from the Lyon region. Cast at the Salin & Cie forges in Dammarie-sur-Saulx & Écurey in the Meuse department, starting in 1894, whose metallurgical activity dates back to 1188. This model is referenced in the 1897-1898 commercial catalog of the Dammarie & Écurey factories, "Art and Ornamental Cast Iron," under the reference "Large Curved Balcony," no. 402, pp. 420 and 421, "weight approx. 31 kg/m." It consists of four elements with a basket of fruit and cascading garlands of flowers, within a cartouche encircled by palm fronds flanked by a series of scrolls ending in acanthus leaves and finials. The central panel is composed of a series of motifs, known as "extensions," embellished with inverted palmettes between a set of scrolls of the same design. A small piece is missing from the right-hand return and from the corners where the panels join beneath the acanthus leaves. Three of its fixing brackets were extracted intact; one had to be cut. See photos. Its weight, according to information provided by the foundry, is estimated at 300 to 350 kg. Its height is 94 cm plus the base, its depth is 160 cm at the handrail and 162 cm at ground level, plus 12 cm for the base, and its length at the handrail is 472 cm and its length at ground level is 459 cm.
