His father was a sculptor and his mother a painter. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he received classical training in painting. Albert Genta is a French artist whose name is synonymous with a certain idea of 20th-century sensuality and elegance. He is a painter whose work has a very stable market value, particularly for his nudes and interior scenes. Born in Nice in 1901, he moved to Paris to study at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts. There he became a student of Fernand Cormon (the same teacher as Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh), which gave him a very solid academic technical foundation. A painter of femininity, Genta is famous for his portraits of women and his nudes rendered with great delicacy. His works are often bathed in a soft, almost powdery light. He uses a palette of pastel tones, mother-of-pearl, and light ochres that give the skin a velvety appearance. His models are often depicted in the intimacy of a boudoir, a bedroom, or before a dressing table. It is a painting of the "stolen moment," very elegant and never vulgar. Thanks to his talent, he became a highly regarded portraitist. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français (of which he was a member) and the Salon des Indépendants. He received numerous awards throughout his career, including a silver medal in 1937. In the 1950s, he began teaching painting at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. He continued to exhibit his work in salons and art galleries until his death in 1989. Some of his best-known works include "Seated Nude" (1945) and "Seated Nude Woman on a Bed" (1950). Albert Genta's works have been auctioned on numerous occasions. In 2015, a painting titled "Reclining Nude" sold at auction for €26,600. The following year, another of his paintings, "Seated Nude Woman on a Bed," sold for €29,000.
