"Breton Market In Locronan Around 1900 "
This canvas reflects the atmosphere and importance of Breton markets, a symbol of ancestral Brittany. The painter chose the church of Saint Ronan in Locronan (a commune in Finistère) to immortalize the moment. We find a group of women wearing the traditional costume of the country. The church of Locronan is one of the most beautiful examples of flamboyant Gothic art of the 15th century. This imposing 15th century building was built "in the shape of a cathedral" according to the wishes of Francis II, father of Anne of Brittany. It is the icon of the small town of character.
