The beautiful, powerful horses in the foreground are dressed in harness for arable work and somewhat resemble a mixture of the Percheron and Andalusian breeds. While the horses are quenching their thirst, a young driver is talking with a girl who also came to the well for water. The artist managed to convey the mood of the animals on this hot day very realistically.
