Pair Of Neapolitan Gouache Paintings, Italy, Vesuvius, Naples, Antiquity, Paestum, Greek Temple, Grand Tour
A beautiful pair of gouache paintings from around 1830, the Charles X period, during the Restoration, depicting Italian scenes. One is set in the Bay of Naples, showing Mount Vesuvius with its plume of smoke; the other, in Campania, 100 km from Naples, at the archaeological site of Paestum, represents the Greek Temple of Neptune (5th century BC). These gouaches were executed during the Grand Tour, when European artists, aristocrats, and travelers came to admire the ruins and artistic sites of Italy. These finely executed gouaches, with their vibrant colors, are in very good condition and presented in pitch pine frames. Dimensions with frames: 39.50 cm x 32.50 cm.
