Pretty Little 18th-century Flemish Lantern, In Good Condition
A very charming brass lantern, richly stamped andengraved on all exterior surfaces. It is cylindrical in shape, candle-lit, andsurrounded by six flat rectangular glass panes held by folding brass clips. Thebase is attractively stamped in a crown shape and finished with a knob. Thehinged door opens and closes with a latch. The top is fitted with a sturdywrought iron bracket. A beautiful object, "Dinant Metalwork,"Flanders, second half of the 18th century, with more recent glass panes, a verypleasing size, which could be carried on the end of a pole, or raised andlowered to light it… Good condition, all rivets are old, some scratches to thepatina, a little cleaning may or may not be necessary. We will pack this itemas it deserves so that it arrives in this condition.
