Oil On Canvas. Leda And The Swan, Lombard Painter Of The 17th Century, 17th Century.
Oil on canvas. Lombard School, 17th-early 17th century. The Greek myth tells of Zeus transforming into a swan to approach and seduce Leda, Queen of Sparta. A recurring theme in painting, in this representation the white bodies of the bird and the naked woman, already in the act of intercourse, stand out against the darkened room. In the upper right corner, a winged cherub, armed with a bow and arrow, covers his eyes to avoid seeing the sensual embrace. The painting was relined in the 20th century and is framed in an antique frame.
