Pair of earthenware dishes from the "Gardening Trophies" or "Agricola" service, made by Colette Guéden for Primavera. One is decorated with a rooster on a weathervane, with a scythe and rake below surrounded by foliage. The other is decorated with a gardener's hat mounted on a weathervane, with a scythe and rake below surrounded by foliage. A wide green scalloped border surrounds the entire dish. One dish is in very good overall condition. The other has a slight, non-penetrating hairline crack. It is signed with a brush, "Cg," and stamped on the back. Diameter: 31.5 cm. For your information: The Primavera workshop, the art studio of the Printemps department stores, was founded in 1912 by René Guilleré, a prominent art critic of the time. Colette Guéden (born in 1905) joined the workshop in 1927 as a decorator, then as head of the workshop, and finally as artistic director until 1972.
