Etruscan Umbo
A bronze shield boss. Round bronze discs, often decorated with punched or incised designs, were frequently affixed to shields made of wood, leather, or bronze. Many shields discovered in Italic and Etruscan chamber tombs of the 7th century BC were intended for ceremonial or funerary use; their fragility rendered them unusable in combat.
