Jeanselme, Important Stamped Bookcase, Napoleon III Period, Circa 1850. An important and exceptional bookcase in molded and carved Norci wood, dating from the Napoleon III period, stamped JEANSELME, a prestigious Parisian cabinetmaking firm renowned for its exceptional creations, intended for an aristocratic and bourgeois clientele in the 19th century. This magnificent bookcase features a stepped design and opens with eight doors on the front, four of which are glazed. The upper doors are framed with curved moldings, richly adorned with foliate clasps, shells, and finely carved rocaille motifs. The uprights and frames are highlighted with gilt brass trim. The upper doors reveal twelve interior shelves in three vertical rows. Its lower doors feature molded and sculpted panels in a Rococo style, in relief, highlighted with gilded brass moldings, and rest on a base with an overhanging plinth. The lower doors reveal six interior shelves in three vertical rows. All the shelves are height-adjustable using a rack and pinion system. It has a molded cornice. The entire bookcase is richly embellished with gilded brass fillets and moldings, including door and glass frames, panels, plinth, and cornice. It has its keys. The "Jeanselme et Fils" partnership was formed in 1856 by Joseph Pierre François and his son, Charles Joseph Marie.
