Still Life, Pheasant Hunting Table, Signed Wieduwilt (1841-1930)
Artist: Franz-otto Wieduwilt
A festive atmosphere is depicted on a table draped in fabrics and adorned with fruit and hunting trophies in this large oil on canvas, signed lower left by the artist WIEDUWILT (1841-1930): O.F. Wieduwilt Munich 1918. Pheasants, a mallard, and partridges are piled between a sliced watermelon and a basket overflowing with grapes, apples, pears, and peaches. A glass of wine and a large, Renaissance-style covered cup, a symbol of wealth and a precious vessel suitable for caviar and seafood, are also present. The background opens onto a vast terrace surrounded by powerful columns of climbing foliage, inspired by the architecture of Ancient Rome. This terrace directs the gaze toward a distant landscape, bordered by pleated purple drapery.
