MITORAJ Igor Born in 1944 in Oederan, Saxony, Germany; studied at the Krakow School of Fine Arts under Kantor*; 1968-1974, École des Beaux-Arts in Paris; 1979-1983, studied direct carving in Pietrasantz; lives in Paris. Sculptor. Working in bronze or directly in marble, he draws inspiration from Greco-Roman classicism, monumental even in its smallest forms. He breaks with the concept of total representation, creating a kind of archaeological museum composed of a foot and a hand, the two halves of a statue, a hollowed-out brain to house figurines of thoughts. He carves a square niche into the left pectoral and places the beloved figure within it, as in a medallion. He also sketches his work in flat, tinted terracotta pieces, revealing the project's progression.
