Born in 1926 in Marseille, René Ben Lisa studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts. Near Aix-en-Provence, he settled in the village of La Prignonne to produce utilitarian ceramics decorated with anthropomorphic jugs and pots fired in an electric kiln.
