The work bears the red "ED" stamp from the Delacroix posthumous sale of February 21, 1864.
It was likely part of lot 648 (studies of women's heads from nature, watercolors and drawings, 54 sheets) or 653 (studies of men and women from photographs, pen and pencil drawings, 74 sheets).
