"Spanish Vargueño, Circa 1700, Walnut Wood"
Spanish Vargueño, circa 1700. A vargueño (also called a bargueño) is a traditional Spanish piece of furniture dating from the Renaissance. It is a secretary desk, often with a drop-front that serves as a writing surface. The interior typically contains numerous small drawers and compartments. This example dates from around 1700. It is in exceptionally beautiful and pristine condition, almost entirely original. Only a few minor restorations to the wood have been carried out here and there. It retains its original, very attractive back panel. The piece is made of solid walnut and boasts a magnificent patina and color. It rests on a custom-made metal base dating from a later period (mid-20th century). Dimensions: W 127.5 x D 45 x H 161 cm
