Hardstone Marquetry Panel, Pietra Dura, 19th Century
A decorative wood panel inlaid with hardstones, depicting a bird pecking at the ground, surrounded by stylized vegetation. It measures 47 x 34 cm. A 19th-century work of Italian influence, in the Florentine style. The marquetry is quite finely cut, especially on the feathers and foliage. The warm brown-stained wood is a veneer, probably of walnut or fruitwood. The color palette is harmonious, and the decorative work is well executed. The panel is in good condition, with the stones well integrated into the wood, despite a crack at the bottom and some very minor chips.
