Set Of 4 Etruscan-style Chairs With Lyre-shaped Seats, Directoire Period
A set of four Directoire chairs in the Etruscan style, made of off-white lacquered beechwood, late 18th century. Their cabriolet-style reclining backs are adorned in the center with a delicately carved lyre. The seats rest on tapered front legs decorated with a rare motif of stylized oak leaves. Their elegance, the quality of their craftsmanship, and the delicacy and diversity of their carved decoration are typical of Parisian work from the late 18th century. These comfortable chairs are very stable and sturdy; their traditional upholstery has been redone and covered in a matching double-corded, glazed brown leather.
