A Plate With Capucin Decoration, Iron Red And Grisaille - China, 18th, Qianlong Period
A porcelain plate with a Capucin glazed ground, decorated in iron red and grisaille within cartouches. The decoration is repeated in the central medallion.
This combination of iron red, grisaille, and "Batavia" glaze is particularly rare. The shape of the plate on the reverse might suggest it is slightly earlier, perhaps from the late Yongzheng period.
China, 18th
Early Qianlong period (1736-1795)
Diameter: 22.4 cm
For an identical example, see :
- Ostindisk porselen i Norge, Huitfeldt, Johanne, 1993, p. 132.
Some minor glaze flaws, tiny chips on the base, otherwise in perfect condition.
More information and photos available upon request.
