"Important Louis XVI Style Fireplace In White Calacatta Marble"
A substantial Louis XVI style Neoclassical fireplace in white Calacatta marble, dating from the 19th century, complete and in perfect condition. Exquisitely crafted and of exceptionally high quality marble, its generously molded mantelpiece follows its contours. The entire decoration is finely sculpted, including the friezes adorned with leaves and finials on the frieze flanking a central panel, as well as the rosettes on the pilasters, enlivened by fluting and remarkable asparagus-like motifs on the uprights. Three molded panels, one of which is at the top, embellish its sides. A set of cast-iron plates in the same style adorns the firebox. The fireplace is decorated, on the bottom, with a floral basket superimposed on a sickle and a pair of thyrses adorned with vine tendrils, suspended by a ribbon from a garland of flowers, and on the sides with musical instruments of the same design. Its original floor slab, framed in Bois Jourdan marble (Mayenne) with Sarrancolin marble panels (Hautes-Pyrénées), completes the design. The total depth, including the chimney and floor slab, is 71 cm, and 83 cm including the cast-iron firebox. Its length at the body is 171.8 cm. The dimensions of its firebox are 116 cm wide and 77 cm high. You can visit our website: www.claudeaugustin.com
