This work dates from her first trip to Southeast Asia. In 1920, she married Paul de Foutereau-Vassel, a teacher, and followed him to Shanghai (China) and then to Hanoi (French Indochina). There, she taught drawing at the French lycée (around 1925-1926) and exhibited regularly in Indochina. She is passionate about traditional Asian techniques such as lacquer, silk painting, watercolor, and charcoal. Alix Aymé's art blends European influences (Nabis, Gauguin) with Vietnamese tradition, creating an original synthesis of cultures. Maurice Denis will be her mentor and teacher, and the two will maintain a continuous correspondence.
