Traveling Painters - Indochina Vietnam - Elephant And Its Mahout
Artist: Peintres Voyageurs
Beautiful oil on Isorel depicting an elephant and its mahout, a typical scene from the Indochina period. This oil is signed lower right but I have not yet managed to identify it, see photo. To be continued ... This work is very reminiscent of the similar scene charcoals by Paul Jouve showing the royal elephants in carapace of Hue. It is a work that is part of the production of Western traveling painters of the first half of the 20th century. 40 cm high x 70 cm wide with frame, 17 cm x 45 without. In good condition, the frame has an old restoration at the bottom left, see photo.
