"Two Portraits Forming A Pair Of An Aristocratic Couple. French 18th Century"
Two oval oil paintings on canvas. A three-quarter bust portrait of a man draped in a red cloak. His hair is curly and abundant. A portrait of a woman wearing a red dress and a Fontange-style hairdo. It is noteworthy that she wears no jewelry; her natural beauty is sufficient. One cannot help but admire her milky complexion enhanced by rosy cheeks. We are presented with a harmonious young couple, both dressed in dark red. The quality of the treatment of the faces, the white outline around the eyes, strongly suggests the workshop of François de Troy. The paintings' provenance, from a family in eastern France, reinforces this hypothesis. Our paintings are presented in 19th-century oval frames. Relined.
