Iranian Oriental Ghoum Rug, Wool: 3.33 X 2.35 Meters - Circa 1960/70

This hand-knotted rug, measuring 3.33 x 2.35 meters, was made between 1960 and 1970 and is in good condition.

Ghom rugs, made of wool and KURK, emerged in Iran around 1920-1930, driven by the artisans and merchants of Kashan. Our rug perfectly illustrates this tradition with exceptional wool, fine and precise patterns, and harmonious colors. It also shares many similarities with Kashan rugs, particularly in the medallions and borders. Made with a tight Persian knot on fine wool, Ghom rugs are distinguished by their specific designs. This particular rug features a field covered with Herati motifs – the Herati design consists of a flower framed by a lozenge, surrounded by four acanthus leaves. This rug, sold under the names Ghom, Qom, or Qum, is a magnificent example of this art, combining classicism with rare nuances.
